Your Personal Growth Is Extremely Important To The Lord
"The Lord is intent on your personal growth and development. Your progress is accelerated when you willingly allow Him to lead you through every growth experience you encounter, whether you welcome the experience or not. Trust in the Lord. Ask to be led by the Spirit to know His will. Be willing to accept it. You will then qualify for the greatest happiness and the heights of attainment from this mortal experience." The Atonement Can Secure Your Peace And Happiness; Elder Richard G. Scott
The Lord Is Intent On Your Personal Growth And Attainment
Personal growth may mean chastisement. Being chastised by the Lord is a great thing, because He knows how to do it right. He will do it in a way where you will still feel loved. Personal growth also means stretching. The New Testament story of Peter leaving the boat to walk to Christ is a great example of personal growth. He had the faith to step out of the boat, which in and of itself demonstrates great faith.
The Lord is intent on your personal growth because His greatest desire is to grant you special spiritual gifts. He can't give His gifts to the wicked. Heavenly Father delegated His power to Jesus Christ, and Christ desires to share is His power with as many who are willing to receive. Receiving the Lord and His gifts requires action.
Even those who have been ordained to the priesthood may not actually have His power. Being ordained to His priesthood and having His power are the same. Having His power requires personal effort and righteousness.
The Lord wants you to be successful. He wants you to achieve. He wants you to make a difference in the world for good. He wants you to be a powerful instrument in His hands.
Trust In The Lord
Trusting in the Lord is supremely important. The opposite is trusting in yourself. If you trust in the Lord and know how to do it, you will be able to walk on water like Peter did. If you trust in yourself you will always sink. The Lord wants you to do impossible things for Him, things that you will wonder what you have got yourself into. If you trust in the Lord you will make it through and succeed.
The best information I have come across about trusting in the Lord is from Elder Gene R. Cook and his book/CD's of Receiving Answers To Your Prayers. Trusting in the Lord is about constantly seeking after Him, through the basics of the gospel such as prayer and scripture study. He talks about a principle of checking in with the Lord through prayer. Frequently throughout the day tell Him through prayer how you are feeling and express your emotions to Him.
The scriptures say our tendency is to seek after God only during the bad times. This is not pleasing to the Lord. He wants you to seek after Him during the good times also.
Ask To Be Led By The Spirit To Know His Will
The gift of the Holy Ghost is everything. General Authorities have said that everything depends on having the Holy Ghost. Your most important decision you will have today and tomorrow and forever no matter what the issue is to have the spirit with you.The Lord can make more out of your life than you can. Doing your own will, will not get you very far. You can by doing His will become a great benefit to your fellowman.
To Qualify For The Greatest Happiness And Heights Of Attainment From This Mortal Experience
I believe everyone wants to be happy and successful in the most profound way. Great happiness and success requires being guided by the spirit and doing the Lord's will and not your own.You won't know His will without being led by the Spirit. The Lord has a specific mission for you. I think He will do everything He possibly can to help you discover it. The scriptures also say that many are called but few are chosen because the world becomes more important than knowing and doing God's will.
