The Holy Ghost Is The Second Most Important Gift You Can Receive In This Life

The Holy Ghost is the third member of the Godhead. He is a personage of spirit. He does not have a physical body of flesh and bones but is a body of spirit. It is also known as the spirit or the spirit of God.

The mission of the Holy Spirit is to;

• He bears witness of the Father and the Son
• He reveals the truth of all things
• He sanctifies those who have repented and become baptized
• He is the Holy Spirit of Promise

There are many benefits to being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, to include having the priesthood (authority to act in the name of God), temples and the ability to connect families beyond death, and the Holy Ghost.

Other than eternal life, the gift of the Holy Ghost is the greatest gift you can have in this life.

Elder Parley P. Pratt a deceased apostle said this about the Holy Spirit;

"The gift of the Holy Ghost… quickens all the intellectual faculties, increases, enlarges, expands, and purifies all the natural passions and affections, and adapts them, by the gift of wisdom, to their lawful use. It inspires, develops, cultivates, and matures all the fine-toned sympathies, joys, tastes, kindred feelings, and affections of our nature. It inspires virtue, kindness, goodness, tenderness, gentleness, and charity. It develops beauty of person, form, and features. It tends to health, vigor, animation, and social feeling. It invigorates all the faculties of the physical and intellectual man. It strengthens and gives tone to the nerves. In short, it is, as it were, marrow to the bone, joy to the heart, light to the eyes, music to the ears, and life to the whole being."

This is the greatest passage on the Holy Ghost that I have ever read. Just think about what your life would be like if you possessed the qualities talked about in that quote. Think how happy you would be. Think about what a difference you would be to your family and those around you.

Is it not worth doing what it takes to have that gift, not only sometimes but have it dwell in you constantly?

President James E. Faust in his talk The Key To The Knowledge Of God quoted Joseph Smith that you can become a new creation through the Holy Ghost.

Think about what it means to become a new creation. Almost everyone wants change. Change for most is extremely difficult. The Holy Spirit will not only facilitate the change, but will completely transform you. It will change you from a carnal being to a spiritual person. It is the only way to change you into a powerful person.

The gospel of Jesus Christ has the answer to every personal, national and world problem.

"And they all cried with one voice, saying: Yea, we believe all the words which thou hast spoken unto us; and also, we know of their surety and truth, because of the Spirit of the Lord Omnipotent, which has wrought a mighty change in us, or in our hearts, that we have no more disposition to do evil, but to do good continually." Mosiah 5:2

People become new creatures when they feel the spirit. Feeling the love of God is the sweetest experience of this life.

Elder Lawrence E Corbridge in his talk The Way, said there is nothing of greater worth than the Holy Ghost. He also said everything depends on having this gift.

Elder Robert D. Hales dedicated an entire talk to this gift called Out of Darkness into His Marvelous Light, he said many beautiful truths about this gift and one was it is he a cleansing agent for sin.

Elder Richard G. Scott in Peace of Conscience and Peace of Mind, says peace of mind and conscience is not easy to come by. If you have this gift with you constantly, you will have peace of mind and conscience. How, the spirit is sensitive. The spirit will leave when you sin or doing anything that is offensive to it. Your goal should be to develop a closeness as possible to the spirit, and that requires great effort.

Anyone can feel the Holy Spirit, but not anyone can have the gift where it dwells you with you constantly as long as you don't offend it.

God in his heavens rule with order. He has set specific conditions in which you can have the gift of the Holy Ghost.

What you must do to have the gift (full time companionship) of the Holy Spirit

• Somebody with the Melchizedek Priesthood must give it to you
• Must be baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
• Receive it by the laying on of hands from someone who has the priesthood.

The gift of the Holy Ghost is precious beyond comprehension. It will help you realize your greatest potential. The prophets have taught that the reason why you don't realize your fullest potential is because you see through the glass darkly. It helps you clear things up and see what is possible.
