He Gives Grace For Grace, Attribute For Attribute

The prophets teach to not let any day pass by without doing something good for someone else. There are two kinds of people in the world, the givers and the takers. The key to receiving a large measure of the grace (enabling power) of God is to be a giver. The best givers are also wonderful receivers. Receiving implies something much different than taking. My feeling on the matter is that taking is receiving with no intention of giving back. Receivers receive with the intention of giving back. You can't be a good giver if you don't have anything to give.

SOME KEYS TO RECEIVING

Elder A. Roger Merrill in his talk Receiving By The Spirit taught how we can more fully receive mainly in church meetings but it applies in personal study also. He taught three keys to receiving;

1. Seek
2. Feel
3. Act

Seek: Elder Merrill said we live in an entertainment world which is a spectator world. He said too many attend meetings expecting to be entertained. People who take notes in meetings will always receive more than those who do not. Taking notes sets the foundation for incredible personal revelation. My personal favorite method of note taking is the mind mapping method. Google mind mapping to learn what it is all about.

President Eyring taught me something that since I have never been in a boring meeting. President Eyring was taught by his father to always in meetings teach yourself the topic the teacher is talking about. This is where mind mapping is so powerful. If the speaker is talking about a subject and not presenting it in an entertaining way, the spirit through mind mapping will bring to your mind connections and insights that you had not previously considered.

Another way to receive is to pray for the speaker in your heart. When you pray for the speaker you are being an actor in more than one way, through your prayers you are giving the speaker strength and increasing your gifts at the same time.

Truth is one of the most powerful gifts you can give. Satan performs his work primarily if not exclusively through lies and false beliefs that he places in your head. For example you may believe that the body in general is a temple but just not yours, Satan has won a big victory by getting you to believe you're your physical looks is the measure of a person.

As Your Obedience Increases, You Receive More Grace For The Grace You Return To Him

The grace you give to God is determined by how you treat others. The Book of Mormon teaches that when you are in the service of your fellow man you are only in the service of your God. The scriptures also teach that man and woman are God's greatest creation. Additionally, they teach how great are the worth of souls.

Charity is not a feeling or an emotion because you can clearly love another when they are mistreating you.
