The Power Of The Word of God To Overcome Addiction

Book of Mormon Marriage And Family Study

1 Nephi 8: 20- “And I beheld a straight and narrow path which came along by the rod of iron.”

The straight and narrow path implies there is a lot that we must ignore. Therefore, we should do less so we can do more. The most successful people are narrowly focused by exerting their energies on what is most important and are not distracted by the many interesting and fun things the world offers. The straight and narrow path and the rod of iron (word of God) are directly linked together. Furthermore, the rod of iron was the only way people arrived to their final destination.

The path to a mighty life, marriage and family is narrowly defined. Meaning, we focus on what is most important which is learning about and communing with Jesus Christ. This is far more important than what our children do on the soccer field or baseball diamond.

Everything we do is at the expense of something else.

No marriage and family can become great without the word of God! This is because the word of God gives us the mind of God. Whatever is in scripture is His will for us. Often, we pray for things that God cannot answer because it is not His will or not for our good. However, anything in scripture is available such as gaining the faith and powers of a Moses. This will require work! The Bible Dictionary says prayer is a form of work and we have to work for our blessings. We must pay a price.

People who achieve the most in this life don’t try to do everything. Instead, they focus on the most important. That is Jesus Christ! If we consecrate our lives and focus it on Christ He will return to us freedom that we can hardly dream of.

Elder D. Todd Christofferson said, “True success in this life comes in consecrating our lives- that is, our time and choices- to God’s purposes. In doing so, we permit Him to raise us to our highest destiny.”

In my mind consecration means we do much less of the worldly things so we can dedicate more of our time and choices to God’s purposes.
