The Book of Mormon Another Testament of Jesus Christ
Gospel Basics Series: The Gospel Of Jesus Christ
God knew that numerous problems were caused by the many years of darkness through the apostasy. He knew that much misinformation and doubts would become ingrained in the world. To correct this, God brought forth another ancient scripture, comparable to the Bible that has the fullness of the gospel. The book proves that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is true. This book is called the Book of Mormon.
Among the many visitors Joseph Smith received in restoring the gospel and the church, one was a prophet from the Book of Mormon. His name was Moroni. Moroni told Joseph Smith about gold plates that Moroni and others wrote in ancient times. Moroni informed Joseph Smith where the gold plates were hidden since ancient times.
Joseph Smith recovered the plates and translated them by the power of God. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ. It is a record of holy prophets before Christ was born and after His crucifixion. The Book of Mormon took place in the American continent, teaching the doctrines of Jesus Christ.
Jesus Christ is the central focus of The Book of Mormon. It is a history of the ancient people of the American continent, but more important it teaches in a powerful way the doctrines of Jesus Christ. The Lord’s atonement is one example.
Having a testimony of the Book of Mormon is mandatory in knowing of the truthfulness of the Restoration, Joseph Smith and the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints.
This is either true or false. There is no middle ground.
There is only one way to know that it is true. You must read it, ponder over it and pray about it, and ask God if it is true. You can’t know without prayer. Memorized prayers will not work.
The recommended manner of prayer is this; Address Heavenly Father by name (“My Heavenly Father”), thank Him for your blessings and in your own words ask Him if the Book of Mormon is true. Talk to your Heavenly Father like you would your best friend. Prayer is a two-way communication. Consider sharing with Him your thoughts and feelings while you read the Book of Mormon. Close your prayer “in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.”
You will receive your answer through your thoughts and feelings of peace, joy and love. You will feel that it is true, and it will expand your mind. The answer will come through the power of the Holy Ghost, whose mission is to testify and be a witness of Jesus Christ.
