How To Make Your Home A Holy Place

Stand Ye In Holy Places

Book of Mormon Marriage And Family Study

1 Nephi 19: 24

“from whom ye have been broken off”

We are told to stand in holy places; however, what makes a place holy? The temple is a holy place and so in the home or at least it should be. Yet, sadly for many children the home is the scariest place on earth. For example, domestic violence is too common and there is no excuse for abuse of any kind.

The actual temple is a holy place because everything in it is to restore you to Christ and the Godhead. The determining factor in my mind if it is holy or not is if you recognize you are broken off from God and are doing everything possible to restore that relationship.

This is a challenge for many Saints because the Apostles and Prophets teach over and over again about standing in holy places. Likewise, they say the home is also a holy place, second only to the temple. I agree with the Apostles that the home is a holy sanctuary; however, I think it makes some families complacent and entitled. Some may feel that membership in the church automatically makes their home holy.

Church membership does not make the home holy!

If your home is holy, it is because you made it so by seeking after Christ. You made it holy recognizing you are broken off from your heavenly parents and desperately want that restoration and will do whatever it takes to bring down heaven into your home.
