Repentance Is A Change of Mind And Heart

Repentance is having a change of mind and heart. Concentrate on the sin that is giving you the most trouble, and then give most of your attention on the small sins. It is extremely difficult to commit a big sin if you worry about the small sins first.

Focus on the incremental which leads to the monumental.

The small things lead to great results. Dr. John Lund is an expert on the love languages, who apparently developed the core three before others expanded them to five.

We don’t marry people similar to us, and thank goodness that we do not. You will likely speak a different love language than your spouse. You may do something for your wife that may seem like a Beebe to you. To you the act of love may seem so small and inconsequential that it may seem not worth the time and effort. To your wife it may be a huge act of love, almost equivalent to giving her a medicine ball.

Incremental changes can bring about enormous results.

Some of these small things that most women appreciate is when their husbands pick up their socks, because they are visual. Their environment means a lot to them. Picking up your socks may be like giving your wife a medicine ball to your wife, and will do a lot for her to feel loved.

Changing view about self may be the most challenging, but will bring the most lasting and drastic changes. To understand who you are, requires that you know who God is. What His attributes and characteristics are; because that is what you can become one day.

S. Michael Wilcox gave a powerful devotional about this idea of the way we see ourselves. Understanding that you are a child of God and what that really means is life changing. It gives you power over Satan, and motivation to overcome his temptations.

He quotes Moses 1:13; “And it came to pass that Moses looked upon Satan and said; Who art thou? For behold, I am a son of God, in the similitude of his Only Begotten; and where is thy glory, that I should worship thee?”

In my mind Moses was asserting that he (Moses) had power over Satan. Moses had to be changed to endure the presence of God (Jesus Christ) but didn’t need any extra powers to behold Satan.

If we truly knew who we are, we would have no fear. Doubt and fear do not come from God, because doubt and fear doesn’t exist in them. They have ALL power and ALL knowledge, and ALL things are subject to them.

What happens when we don’t know who we are?

• We misbehave in big ways.

• We live life with much greater fear and anxiety.

A key to self-control is self-denial. Fasting is a powerful way for the spirit to control the body.
