Ministering In Power And Great Glory December 25, 2017 |
Father’s Should Go Forth And Minister To His Family In Power And Great GloryBook of Mormon Marriage And Family Study1 Nephi 11:28 – “And I beheld that He (Christ) went forth ministering unto the people in power and great glory; and the multitudes were gathered together to hear him; and I beheld that they cast him out from among them.” He Went ForthChrist was not idle. He knew He had power and could heal and bless. Therefore, Christ was fearless. However, His knowledge of His divinity didn’t come automatically. For example, He grew grace from grace; and since He never sinned He progressed much faster than us who sin. Eventually, He knew He was God the Son and the Redeemer of the world. What if we all knew who we really are and why we are on this earth? If you knew where you came from, why you are here and where you are going; how would that change your personal life and how you lead your family? What if the priesthood men truly understood what the priesthood is? The priesthood is infinite like the atonement and in our defense I don’t think we will truly understand what it can do. For example, the Lord used the priesthood to create this world and millions more like it. Fortunately, the scriptures teach us what is possible in this life through the priesthood. The power of God through the priesthood;
President Eyring also talked about two Gifts of the Spirit available to those who walk with the Lord.
And I Beheld That He Went Forth Ministering Unto The People In Power And Great GloryOur charge as husbands and fathers is to minister to our wives and children in power and great glory. This will require sacrifice, which is to give up something important for something more important. For example, we should not hesitate to click off the football game to help our wife cook and clean or play with our children. I think an important part of ministering is family councils. I think many families have a difficult time discussing problems in a Christ-centered way. Councils make this possible and are a way to minister in power and great glory. I think another aspect of ministering in power and great glory for fathers is to know our families. One-on-one time with our wives and children is powerful. I also like the suggestion of instead of assigning chores to children do it with them. For example, working side by side with children such as washing dishes by hand opens up the lines of communication that would be closed in most other settings.
