Joseph Smith learned directly that studying the scriptures leads to personal revelation. He experienced the most direct method of revelation that you can receive. Joseph learned that God is no respecter of persons.

Joseph destroyed some of the false beliefs that much of the religious world to include the Christian world believed about God. Joseph Smith learned directly that God the Father and Jesus Christ were separate and distinct beings with resurrected physical bodies. Joseph knew this because he saw them standing side by side. He also learned from first hand experience that God’s power is greater than Satan’s. When Joseph went to the grove of trees to pray, Satan tried everything he possibly could to prevent Joseph from praying. He knew that God created man after His image.

Joseph experienced the majesty of God’s divine characteristics and attributes. He gave us the following charge, “I want you all to know Him, and to be familiar with Him.” History of the Church, 6:305
