Every Couple Should Increase Their Desire To Plan And Dream

Book of Mormon Marriage And Family Study

1 Nephi 11: 2 - "And the spirit said unto me, Behold, what desirest thou?"

Desire is a core part of agency because it directs our choices. Furthermore, desire is critical in marriage and family because desire ultimately determines where you end up. Likewise it gives you something to work toward, which increases your passion.

What kind of a marriage and family do you want?

A sure way to flatten the relationship is to have no vision as a couple.

I think retreats is a good idea for couples because it recharges and rekindles your love or deepens it. So too, retreats are a perfect time to plan and dream what you want for your marriage and family.

Imagine what it would do for your romance if you could sneak away on a quarterly basis to a bed and breakfast. It doesn't have to be far from home but I don't think you should be burdened with problems at home.

Where there is no vision the marriage and family perish.

Finally, the Apostles stress the importance of councils. Daily and weekly councils with your family and spouse will sharpen your focus and lift your sights to what is possible. Some of these councils will be about solving problems in the marriage and family. However, Dr. Lund says your relationship may be toxic if you are weekly discussing serious problems. Nonetheless, problems come up in every marriage but they shouldn't be a constant event. If they are you should take some corrective action.

Dr. Lund recommends the men ask their wife this question every day, (presumably in the morning) "what can I do for you today that would mean the most to you?" That will change things quite a bit!
