Deathbed Repentance September 22, 2013 |
Don’t Wait Until The End of Your Life To RepentThe Presidents Of The Church Series: Joseph SmithJoseph placed a high emphasis on repentance, as have all the prophets. He addressed deathbed repentance. Some people waste their life until they are about to die and then finally realize that their time to perform their labors is over. Satan would love it if you wasted most of your days having fun or entertaining self. Many who are old in age and know that death is just around the corner, examine their lives more critically than the young who think they will live forever. For some this is a time of great anxiety. One way to help you live so that you will not have regrets in life is worthily partaking of the sacrament each week. The sacrament is a time to review your life and make a stronger resolve to be better. It is a time to promise that you will always remember Christ, take upon His name and be a witness for the Lord. Joseph warned against partaking of the sacrament unworthily. He said you will not have the spirit with you if you do this, and said it is trifling with sacred things. Another consequence is the Lord will deliver you over to the buffetings of Satan. Joseph does not feel that we should be repenting every day over the same thing and said it is not pleasing to God. One of the aspects of the atonement is to make us better people, to eventually perfect us and make us like God. The Lord said that His grace is sufficient to turn our weaknesses into strengths.
