An Eternal Marriage and Family Is Dependent on Living Our Covenants and Keeping The Commandments

Book of Mormon Marriage And Family Study

1 Nephi 10:21- “Wherefore, if ye have sought to do wickedly in the days of your probation.”

The prophets teach that our choices determine our destiny. Therefore, how we spend our time has eternal consequences. This is why everything we do is at the expense of something else. The greatest tragedy of all is spiritual death and sadly it is also the most common.

Our wives and children are gifts from God!

4 Principles of Sealings

  1. Nobody will be sealed in eternity to someone they don’t want to be sealed to.
  2. There will be a lot of changes of who will be sealed to who after this life.
  3. Therefore, we should make the decisions about sealings that will make this life as good as it can be.
  4. Even if we want a sealing to last into the eternities, it will only last if we are worthy of it.

What is the significance of these principles? Family is the government of heaven and the most important unity in society. However, we are not entitled to an eternal marriage and family even if we made covenants. Having an eternal family is not something that will happen on its own. It requires deep personal investment.

The Constitution of the Priesthood in the D&C teaches that priesthood power can only operated by the principles of righteousness.

I have also heard the Apostles teach that our wives will have the choice in the next life to stay with us or not. Truly, the only marriages that are eternal are those whose the Holy Spirit of Promise has sealed it secure which requires living our covenants.
