I think these verses mean more than not saying profanity. I think the Lord might be telling us not to be too attached to this world. Everyone will die; however, some live as though they will never die. Eternity is a long time and our life here is extremely short compared to eternity. Some have compared it to a total of 9 minutes.

This idea that earth life is so short compared to eternity and knowing that everything we do is written in an eternal book of life, it makes me think just how serious this earth life really is.

I never want to waste a single minute.
