Behold The Fountain Of Filthy Water

The fountain of filthy water is Satan and his kingdom, and his influence is overwhelming. He is real and dark, and supremely evil. His goal is to corrupt, kill and destroy. There is nothing too low that he will not try. He has no respect for life. For example, Abortions and organ harvesting are two signs of his contempt for life. Surely, Satan is laughing at the thousands of babies we are murdering through abortion.

The fountain is the world with all the wickedness it produces. Mass entertainment is undoubtedly part of this fountain, which is corrupting our society. Sadly, the media sets the trend of culture. The fountain implies a never-ending supply of filth. Filth breeds on itself until it grows into something that is almost unmanageable. For example, America produces the most pornography in the world.

Elder Maxwell said, “Yes, we have unprecedented mass entertainment and mass communications, but so many lonely crowds. The togetherness of technology is no substitute for the family.”

“Our context is challenging, however. We have many overwhelmed parents, more and more marriages in meltdown, and dysfunctional families. Destructive consequences impact steadily from drugs, violence, and pornography. Truly, despair cometh… of iniquity (Moro 10:22). Since the adversary desireth “that all men might be miserable like unto himself,” his is the plan of misery (2 Ne. 2:27; see also 2 Ne. 2:18).

The Depths Thereof Are The Depths Of Hell

The consequences of drinking this filthy water are pretty severe. Hell! Marriages in meltdown and dysfunctional families. Many young people and adults are addicted to social media. This has made them miserably lonely. It is a fake reality.

Addictions are the depths of hell!

Pornography is particularly malicious. This addiction destroys marriages and families and wreaks havoc in society. In my mind pornography is Satan’s Weapon Of Mass Destruction. This drug is easily accessible and once you are addicted you need more perverse content. For example, if you are addicted to any drug you continuously crave the original highs when you first started. However, it will never happen, but you hunger for it anyway.

So what do you do?

You use more and more of the drug trying as hard as you can to get the original high, to eventually you take in lethal doses that you die from an overdose.

Pornography will not kill you. However, the same desensitization happens. The initial high wears off that will never return, so you turn to darker and more perverse pornography. For example, you start with adult pornography and eventually turn to child pornography because the adult porn is not enough. The same thing happens that it doesn’t give you a good enough high. Then, to feed your addiction you want the real thing and start to abuse children sexually.

How does this apply to marriage and family?

We must not underestimate how evil Satan is. He will exploit a soft target. He will try and put the fountain of filthy water directly in the home. The TV and internet!

We must make our homes a haven away from the wicked world.
